You've made the decision, your first kitesurfing lesson is booked! The excitement can begin. As you dream of flying across the water, a practical question pops up: "What should I actually bring to my first lesson?"
A good preparation is half the battle and ensures you can start your adventure relaxed and focused. As an instructor, I often see beginners struggle with this question. That's why I've put together this ultimate packing list for you. We'll make a clear distinction between what we as a kitesurfing school provide for you and the few things you need to bring yourself.
Let's start with the easy part: the big, important, and expensive gear. You don't have to worry about that. When you book a lesson at Kitesurfspot, we provide all the necessary top-brand equipment to get you on the water safely and comfortably.
This is what will be ready for you:
You absolutely do not need to look for a second-hand kitesurfing set yourself. In fact, we strongly advise against coming with your own equipment if you have no experience. Learning to kitesurf on professionally tuned gear is much safer and more efficient. After your course, if you want to practice on your own, you can also rent kitesurfing equipment from us.

Fortunately, your contribution to the gear is much simpler and probably fits in a backpack. Here is your checklist:

Just as important as knowing what to bring is knowing what to leave behind. Leave your jewelry, expensive watches, and unnecessary valuables at home or in the car. On the beach and in the water, the chance of loss or damage is high. We have changing rooms and showers available, but bring as few valuables as possible to the beach.
And although it's tempting to watch YouTube videos in preparation: don't try to practice techniques beforehand. That can actually be counterproductive. Come with an open mind and let your instructor guide you step by step. That is by far the fastest and safest way to learn.

For lessons at the Zandmotor in Scheveningen, surf shoes are not strictly necessary as the bottom is mostly sand. Some people find them more comfortable for extra warmth or grip. If you have them, feel free to bring them. Otherwise, you'll be fine barefoot.
Contact lenses are generally not a problem. It might be useful to bring an extra pair in case you lose one. If you wear glasses, it's best to take them off during the lesson. If you really need them, wear them with a sturdy sports strap. Discuss this with your instructor beforehand.
We strongly advise against bringing valuables like your phone onto the water. The risk of loss or water damage is high. During your first lesson, focus completely on the instructions and the kite. There will be plenty of time for photos on the beach after the lesson!
As you can see, the list of things you need to bring yourself is short and simple. The most important thing is that you are comfortable and can focus on learning. We take care of the rest.
By being well-prepared, you will get the most out of your 1-day kitesurfing course. You won't waste time looking for things and can start with the best part right away: flying the kite!
Want to experience what it feels like to control a kite for the first time? With the right preparation and our professional guidance, it will be an unforgettable day. Book your lesson and we'll see you soon on the beach in Scheveningen!
